Project & Program Management

Project management is like juggling three balls: time, cost, and quality. Program management is like a troupe of circus performers standing in a circle, each juggling three balls and swapping balls from time to time.

Effective project management is critical to the success of any project within an organization, whether it be internal or external. Although we do have certified Project Management Professionals (PMPs) on staff, our main focus is to utilize our project management team members when providing our other service offerings. Therefore, each of our project management team members has experience in one or more of the other services that we provide.

What is the difference between project & program management?

Project management involves managing the operations of a single project. Depending on the company, this could be a single client project, such as designing a new road or building a new website, or it could be an internal project, such as creating a business process. In addition, projects have a definitive start and end dates. The role of a project management consultant is a tactical one: this person focuses on controlling scope, ensuring quality, meeting deadlines, completing deliverables, and staying within budget.

Program management involves managing a program, which is often composed of several projects. A program manager will be responsible for managing the overarching program, which requires a more diverse skill set, including outlining the various projects that compose the program and how they’re related, defining the program’s strategy and implementation, and delegating the projects, and working with business leaders to ensure business value of the program is obtained.
